What’s New? The Celebrity Edge

A MODERN EDGE AT SEA

We’re excited about the new Celebrity Edge, coming in December 2018!

A team of celebrity designers came together to cultivate a unique setting where the lines between indoors and outdoors have blurred into transformative spaces on Celebrity Edge.

“Outward-facing design is about the creation of a breathtaking space in which the focal visual point is the endlessly changing view,” says renowned London designer Kelly Hoppen, MBE, who took the design lead on staterooms aboard Celebrity Edge.

Among the most innovative features of the outward-facing design concept are the Infinite Verandas.  A simple touch of a button opens the room to the water’s edge, creating a new connection with the sea and approaching shores.

Hoppen also notes how the 950-square-foot Edge Villas — a brand-new suite class — possess “a truly unique design feel that stays with you.” Boasting two floors and an outdoor plunge pool, “the really beautiful aspect is its glass box, which gives you a full view of the ocean and yet feels private enough that you could be in your own apartment.”

Because it was her first time designing a cruise interior, Hoppen recalls how she tapped into her four decades of design experience: “I decided that the easiest way to balance this would be to treat the rooms as if they were hotel rooms, [but] in a venue that is moving on the sea, we had to pay far more attention to the technical concerns of design.”

To balance construction with aesthetics, the weight of the material, textures and acoustics were all carefully considered. The finished staterooms and suites showcase neutral colors and a minimalist style, with an emphasis on clean lines and geometric patterns — evoking a balance of modern luxury and vintage glamour.

Every passenger will also marvel over the one-of-a-kind Magic Carpet, the crowning achievement of this outward-facing vision concept. The cantilevered platform — a true engineering feat — floats effortlessly between decks to create dedicated spaces: a 90-seatopen-air dining area; an extension of the pool area; and, when positioned at the very top of the ship, a sky-high venue for Dinner on the Edge.

“We were inspired by the notion that it could be possible to sail away from the demands of modem living,” says Hoppen.

That sense of inspiration carries over to the ship’s whimsical Rooftop Garden. Created with the help of architect Tom Wright, it’s an idyllic outdoor space to unwind, from morning yoga to evening barbecues under the shadows of oversized sculptures and lush greenery.

“The Rooftop Garden and the art installations are the stuff of fantasy,” Hoppen says. “It’s what we need more of now; something unexpected and different.”

Ultimately, while its cutting-edge features firmly position Celebrity Edge as a ship of the future, the atmosphere on board remains welcoming and relaxed. “Creating a real home away from home, wherever you are in the world, was the most important focus for me,” explains Hoppen.

Set to launch in December 2018, Celebrity Edge will spend the winter sailing the Caribbean followed by summer in the Mediterranean. Contact us to reserve your spot aboard this innovative new ship today.
